Narration Change Part-3

 


Interrogative Sentence

(প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্য)

 

১. Reporting Verb-এর said বা said to-এর পরিবর্তে asked হবে।

২. Reporting Verb এবং Reported Speech-এর মধ্যে linker হিসাবে if / whether বসবে।

৩. Direct Narration-এ Reported speech-টি যদি Do বা Did দিয়ে শুরু হয় তাহলে তার Indirect করতে হলে Do বা Did উঠে গিয়ে তার Assertive Sentence করতে হবে। তার মানে Subject+Verb+Object করতে হবে এবং Sentence-এর শেষে Full Stop (.) বসবে।

যেমনঃ

Direrct: Liton said to Lipi, “Do you follow me?”

Indirect: Liton asked Lipi if she followed him.

Direct: Amlan said to Rekha, Did you listen to my song?”

Indirect: Amlan asked Rekha if she had listened to his song.

৪. যদি Direct Narration-এ Reported speech-টি Am, Is, Are, Was, Were, Have, Has, Had, Shall, Will, Can, Could, May, Might-এর মধ্যে যে কোন একটি দিয়ে শুরু হয় তাহলে সেটি Indirect Narration-এ Subject-এর পরে বসবে।

যেমনঃ

Direct: Elzina said to me, “Have you seen me ago?”

Indirect: Elzina asked me if I had seen her before.

Direct:         Asha said to Isha, “Have you seen my picture?”

Indirect:      Asha asked Isha if he had seen her picture.

Direct:         Swapan said to me, “Do you know me?” 

Indirect:      Swapan asked me if I knew him.

Direct:         Abida said to a boy, “Are you my friend?” 

Indirect:      Abida asked me if I was her friend.

Direct:         Rikta said to a man, “Shall I follow you?”

Indirect:      Rikta asked a man if she would follow the man 

Direct:         I said to Ripon, “Did you draw the picture?”

Indirect:      I asked Ripon if he had drawn the picture. 

Direct:         I said to Sonali, “Are you going to the school?” 

Indirect:      I asked Sonali if she was going to school. 

Direct:         Lucy said to me, “Is there any problem?” 

Indirect:      Lucy asked me if there was any problem. 

Direct:         The teacher said to a student, “Did you come to school yesterday?” 

Indirect:      The teachers asked a student if he had gone to school the previous day.

Direct:         Nand said to Rakhi, “Is this your book?” 

Indirect:      Nand asked Rakhi if that was her book.

Direct:         Browning said to Seema, “Can you lend me a pen?”

Indirect:      Browning asked Seema if she could lend him a pen.

*** মনে রাখতে হবে, যদি Direct Narration-এ Reported speech আগে এবং Reporting verbটি পরে বসে তাহলে তার Indirect Narration করতে হলে আগে Reporting verbকে আনতে হবে তারপরে Reported speech বসাতে হবে। নীচের উদাহরণগুলি লক্ষ্য কর। 

Direct:         “Do you know the way to the station?” She said to Mahim.

Indirect:      She asked Mahim if (whether) he knew the way to the station.

Direct:         “Are you weeping?” I said to Albela.

Indirect:      I asked Albela whether she was weeping.

Direct:         “Had the rose charmed you?” Rosy said to me.

Indirect:      Rosy asked me if the rose had charmed me.

Direct:         “Have you finished my work?” Kabita said to me.

Indirect:      Kabita asked me whether I had finished her work.

Direct:         “Did you knock me yesterday?” Urmi said to Rubel.

Indirect:      Urmi asked Rubel if he had knocked her the previous day.

Direct:         “Is your father at home now?” Alaka said to Biplab.

Indirect:      Alaka asked Biplab if his father was at home then.

Direct:         “May I help you?” Lalit said to Rekha.

Indirect:      Lalit asked Rekha if he might help her.

Direct:         “Will you take tea?” She said to me.

Indirect:      She asked me whether I should take tea.

Direct:         “Can I not meet you?” Babli Said to Akash.

Indirect:      Babli said to Akash if she could not meet him.

Direct:         “Do you want to attract me?”  I said to Jannat.

Indirect:      I asked Jannat if she wanted to attract me.

 

*** যদি Wh-word দিয়ে Reported speech-টি শুরু হয় তাহলে linker হিসেবে if বা whether বসবে না। সেই জায়গায় Wh-word-টি linker হিসেবে ব্যবহার হবে তারপর। বাকি Sentence-টি Assertive Sentence-এ রূপান্তরিত হবে।              

Direct:         I said to Kabita, “Where do you live?”

Indirect:      I asked Kabita where she lived. 

Direct:         Anju said to me, “Which book do you want?”  

Indirect:      Anju asked me which book I wanted. 

Direct:         Biman said to Rupa, “Why are you still waiting here?”

Indirect:      Biman asked Rupa why she was still waiting then. 

Direct:         She said to him, “Who are you?”

Indirect:      She asked him who he was. 

Direct:         Arju said to Sheela, “What did you want?”

Indirect:      Arju asked Sheela what she had wanted. 

Direct:         He said to me, “What are you doing now?”

Indirect:      He asked me what I was doing then. 

Direct:         Milli said to Koran, “What is your name? 

Indirect:      Mili asked Kiran what his name was.

Direct:         Bipasha said to Biplob, “Where were you going?”

Indirect:      Bipasha asked Biplob where he had been going. 

Direct:         Suman said to me, “How do you know this?”

Indirect:      Suman asked me how I knew that.

Direct:         Ratan said to Seema, “Who are you?”

Indirect:      Ratan asked Seema who she was.

Direct:         Apu said to Bidisha, “When did you come here?”

Indirect:      Apu asked Bidisha when she had gone there.

Direct:         I said to Rebika, “Whom did you want?”  

Indirect:      I asked Rebika whom she had wanted

Direct:         Bilkis said to Anirban , “Why will you leave me?”  

Indirect:      Bilkis asked Anirban why he would leave her.
