Past Continuous Tense

Part-I

অতীত কালে কোন কাজ চলছিল, হচ্ছিল বা করা হচ্ছিল এমন কোন বাক্য বা Sentence বোঝালে সেটি Past Continuous Tense হয়।

Assertive – Affirmative Sentence (বর্ণনামূলক – হ্যাঁ বাচক বাক্য)  

Formula: Subject + was/were + (verb+ing) + object.

1. আমি সকালে বই পড়ছিলাম। > I was reading a book in the morning.
2. তুমি রাতে গান গাইছিলে। > You were singing a song at night.
3. সে মাঠে খেলছিল। > He was playing in the field.
4. আমরা বাজারে যাচ্ছিলাম। > We were going to the market.
5. তারা খুব হাসছিল। > They were laughing too much.
6. মা আমার জন্য রান্না করছিলেন। > Mother was cooking for me.
7. বাবা বাড়িতে কাগজ পড়ছিলেন। > Father was reading the newspaper at home.
8. আমি দুপুরে টিভি দেখছিলাম। > I was watching TV at noon.
9. তুমি একটি সুন্দর ছবি আঁকছিলে। > You were drawing a beautiful picture.
10. আমার ঠাকুর মা ভৌতিক গল্প বলছিল। > My grandmother was telling a horror story.
11. আমরা সন্ধ্যায় ফুটবল খেলছিলাম।  > We were playing football in the evening.
12. তারা বাগানে কাজ করছিল। > They were working in the garden.
13. আমি একটি সুন্দর গান শুনছিলাম। > I was listening to a sweet music.
14. তুমি আমাকে একটি চিঠি লিখছিলে। > You were writing me a letter.
15. সে জানালা দিয়ে বাইরে তাকাচ্ছিল। > She was looking outside through the window.
16. আমরা সিনেমা দেখছিলাম।  > We were watching a movie.
17. তারা মঞ্চে নাচছিল।  > They were dancing on the stage.
18. আমি বাগানে হাঁটছিলাম।  > I was walking in the garden.
19. তুমি সুস্বাদু খাবার খাচ্ছিলে। > You were eating food.
20. সে বইয়ের দোকানে বই খুঁজছিল। > She was looking for a book in the bookstore.
21.  আমরা গাড়িতে গান গাইছিলাম। > We were singing song in the car.
22. তারা ভোরে পড়াশোনা করছিল। > They were studying at dawn.
23. আমি তাকে ফোন করছিলাম। > I was calling him by phone.
24. তুমি রাস্তায় সাইকেল চালাচ্ছিলে। > You were riding a bicycle.
25. সে বাজারে কেনাকাটা করছিল। > She was shopping in the market.
26. আমরা পার্কে খেলছিলাম। > We were playing in the park.
27. তারা বিকেলে গল্প করছিল। > They were chatting in the afternoon.
28. আমি একটি ছবি তুলছিলাম। > I was taking a picture.
29. তুমি বাগানে ফুলের যত্ন নিচ্ছিলে। > You were tending to the flowers in the garden.
30. সে ঘরে চিঠি পড়ছিল। >  He was reading a letter in the room.
 
Assertive – Negative Sentence (বর্ণনামূলক – না বাচক বাক্য)  
Formula: Subject + was/were + not + (verb+ing) + object.
অতীত কালে কোন কাজ চলছিল না, হচ্ছিল না বা করা হচ্ছিল না এমন কোন বাক্য বা Sentence বোঝালে সেটি Past Continuous Tense – এর Negative Sentence হয়।
1.  সে বই পড়ছিল না। → He was not reading book.
2.  আমি বাগানে খেলছিলাম না। → I was not playing in the garden.
3.  তুমি সকালে গান গাচ্ছিলে না। → You were not singing in the morning.
4.  তারা রাতে ঘুমাচ্ছিল না। → They were not sleeping at night.
5.  আমরা ছবি দেখছিলাম না। → We were not watching movie.
6.  মা রান্না করছিলেন না। → Mother was not cooking.
7.  বাবা খবর পড়ছিলেন না। → Father was not reading newspaper.
8.  বাচ্চাটি কাঁদছিল না। → The baby was not crying.
9.  তুমি মাঠে কাজ করছিলে না। → You were not working in the field.
10.  সে আমার সঙ্গে কথা বলছিল না। → He was not talking with me.
11.  রিনা রাস্তায় হাঁটছিল না। → Rina was not walking on the road.
12.  তারা গান শুনছিল না। → They were not listening to music.
13.  আমরা লেখালেখি করছিলাম না। → We were not writing.
14.  আমি স্কুলে পড়াশোনা করছিলাম না। → I was not studying at school.
15.  সিংহ হরিণ শিকার করছিল না। → Lion was not hunting deer.
16.  তুমি আমার জন্য অপেক্ষা করছিলে না। → You were not waiting for me.
17.  আমরা বই পড়ছিলাম না। → We were not reading books.
18.  সে বাড়ি যাচ্ছিল না। → He was not going to home.
19.  তারা মাঠে দৌড়াচ্ছিল না। → They were not running in the field.
20.  আমি ফোনে কথা বলছিলাম না। → I was not talking on the phone.
21.  তুমি ছবি আঁকছিলে না। → You were not drawing picture.
22.  শিক্ষক আমাদেরকে পড়াচ্ছিলেন না। → The teacher was not teaching us.
23.  ছেলেটি ভাত খাচ্ছিল না। → The boy was not eating rice.
24.  মেয়েটি হাসছিল না। → The girl was not smiling.
25.  আমরা ভ্রমণে যাচ্ছিলাম না। → We were not going on a trip.
26.  তারা গল্প করছিল না। → They were not chatting.
27.  তুমি কিছু খুঁজছিলে না। → You were not looking for anything.
28.  সে গান শুনছিল না। → He was not listening to music.
29.  আমি বই কিনছিলাম না। → I was not buying book.
30. তারা নদীতে সাঁতার কাটছিল না। → They were not swimming.
 

Interrogative Sentence (প্রশ্ন বোধক বাক্য)

Formula: Was/Were + Subject + (verb+ing) + object?

 অতীত কালে কোন কাজ চলছিল, হচ্ছিল বা করা হচ্ছিল এমন word বা শব্দের উপরে যদি কোন প্রশ্ন করা হয় তাহলে সেই বাক্য বা Sentenceটি  বোঝালে সেটি Past Continuous Tense – এর Interrogative Sentence হয়।

1. তুমি কি গল্প পড়ছিলে? → Were you reading?
2. সে কি ফুটবল খেলছিল? → Was he playing?
3. তারা কি গান গাচ্ছিল? → Were they singing?
4. আমরা কি ছবিটা দেখছিলাম? → Were we watching the movie?
5. মা কি রান্না করছিলেন? → Was mother cooking?
6. বাবা কি ইতিহাস পড়ছিলেন? → Was father reading the newspaper?
7. বাচ্চাটি কি কাঁদছিল? → Was the baby crying?
8. তুমি রাতে কি ঘুমাচ্ছিলে? → Were you sleeping?
9. আমি সকালে কি কাজ করছিলাম? → Was I working in the morning?
10. সে কি তোমার সাথে কথা বলছিল? → Was he talking with you?
11. রিনা কি বাড়ি ফিরছিল? → Was Rina returning home?
12. তারা কি গান শুনছিল? → Were they listening to music?
13. আমরা কি কিছু লেখালেখি করছিলাম? → Were we writing anything?
14. আমি কি পড়াশোনা করছিলাম? → Was I studying?
15. সে কি নদীর ধারে হাঁটছিল? → Was he walking by the river?
16. তুমি কি তার জন্য অপেক্ষা করছিলে? → Were you waiting for her?
17. আমরা কি বই পড়ছিলাম? → Were we reading book?
18. সে কি বাড়ি যাচ্ছিল? → Was he going home?
19. তারা কি রোদে দৌড়াচ্ছিল? → Were they running in the sun?
20. তুমি কি ফোনে কথা বলছিলে? → Were you talking on the phone?
21. তুমি কি ছবি আঁকছিলে? → Were you drawing picture?
22. শিক্ষক কি তোমাদেরকে পড়াচ্ছিলেন? → Was the teacher teaching you?
23. ছেলেটি কি রুটি খাচ্ছিল? → Was the boy eating bread?
24. মেয়েটি কি হাসছিল? → Was the girl smiling?
25. আমরা কি ভ্রমণে যাচ্ছিলাম? → Were we going on a trip?
26. তারা কি গল্প করছিল? → Were they chatting?
27. তুমি কি কিছু খুঁজছিলে? → Were you looking for something?
28. সে কি গান শুনছিল? → Was he listening to music?
29. আমি কি বই কিনছিলাম? → Was I buying book?
30. তারা কি সমুদ্রে সাঁতার কাটছিল? → Were they swimming in the sea?
