Past Indefinite Tense

Part-1

সাধারণত অতীত কালে কোন কাজ করা হল বা হয়েছিল অথবা অতীতের কোন অভ্যাস বোঝালে Past Indefinite Tense হয়।

 

Assertive Sentence

Was-এর ব্যাবহার:

সাধারণত কোন একজন ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণী কোন অবস্থায় ছিল অথবা কোন সময় বা জায়গায় ছিল – এমন কিছু বোঝাতে was-এর ব্যাবহার করা হবে।

Formula: Subject + was + object.

1. আমি গতকাল খুব খুশি ছিলাম। - I was very happy yesterday. 

2. সে স্কুলে ছিল। - He was at school. 

3. তুমি ক্লাসে উপস্থিত ছিলে। - You were present in the class. 

4. সে অসুস্থ ছিল। - She was sick.

5. আমার বাবা তখন অফিসে ছিলেন। - My father was at the office then.

6. বইটি টেবিলের ওপরে ছিল। - The book was on the table. 

7. আমার বন্ধু আমার পাশে ছিল। - My friend was beside me. 

8. আকাশ মেঘলা ছিল। - The sky was cloudy.

9. এই সিনেমাটি খুব সুন্দর ছিল। - This movie was very beautiful. 

10. সে রাতে একা ছিল। - He was alone at night.

11. আমার মা রান্নাঘরে ছিল। - My mother was in the kitchen.

12. আমার ভাই খুব ব্যস্ত ছিল। - My brother was very busy.

13. আমার দাদা একজন বিখ্যাত লেখক ছিলেন। - My grandfather was a famous writer. 

14. সন্ধ্যায় বাতাস ঠান্ডা ছিল। - The air was cold in the evening. 

15. সে ছোটবেলায় খুব দুষ্টু ছিল। - He was very naughty in childhood. 

সাধারণত একের বেশি ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণী কোন অবস্থায় ছিল অথবা কোন সময় বা জায়গায় ছিল – এমন কিছু বোঝাতে were-এর ব্যাবহার করা হবে।

Formula: Subject + were + object.

1. তারা স্কুলে ছিল। - They were at school.

2. আমরা সেদিন দেরি করেছিলাম। - We were late that day. 

3. তোমরা মাঠে ছিলে। - You were in the field.

4. আমার বাবা-মা তখন বাড়িতে ছিলেন। - My parents were at home then. 

5. ছাত্ররা ক্লাসরুমে ছিল। - The students were in the classroom.

6. আমরা পার্টিতে ছিলাম। - We were at the party.

7. তোমরা খুব ব্যস্ত ছিলে। - You were very busy.

8. তারা আমাদের পাশে ছিল। - They were beside us.

9. তোমরা গতকাল খুব আনন্দে ছিলে। - You were very happy yesterday. 

10. আমরা ছুটির দিনে সমুদ্রে ছিলাম। - We were at the beach on the holiday.

যদি কেউ বা কোন কিছু নিজে ছিল না বোঝায় সে ক্ষেত্রে Subject-এর পর Person ও Number অনুযায়ী was বা were বসবে।

Was/Were-এর Negative

1. আমি গতকাল বাড়িতে ছিলাম না। - I was not at home yesterday. 

2. সে স্কুলে ছিল না। - He was not at school. 

3. আমার মা তখন রান্নাঘরে ছিলেন না। - My mother was not in the kitchen then. 

4. বইটি টেবিলে ছিল না। - The book was not on the table. 

5. আমার বন্ধু আমার সাথে ছিল না। - My friend was not with me. 

6. তুমি ক্লাসে উপস্থিত ছিলে না। - You were not present in the class.

7. বিড়ালটি বাগানে ছিল না। - The cat was not in the garden. 

8. আকাশ মেঘলা ছিল না। - The sky was not cloudy.

9. সে রাতে একা ছিল না। - He was not alone at night.

10. আমি গতকাল খুশি ছিলাম না। - I was not happy yesterday. 

11. তারা গতকাল পার্কে ছিল না। > They were not in the park yesterday.

12. তোমরা সকালে ব্যস্ত ছিলে না। > You were not busy in the morning.

13. আমরা গত রাতে সিনেমা হলে ছিলাম না। > We were not at the cinema hall last night.

14. তোমরা মাঠে ছিলে না। > You were not in the field.

15. আমার বাবা-মা তখন বাড়িতে ছিলেন না। > My parents were not at home then.

16. তারা আমাদের পাশে ছিল না। > They were not beside us. 

17. তুমি ক্লাসে উপস্থিত ছিলে না। > You were not present in the class

18. তারা স্কুলে ছিল না। > They were not at school. 

19. আমরা সেদিন দেরি করিনি। > We were not late that day. 

20. তোমরা মাঠে ছিলে না। > You were not in the field. 

18. আমার বাবা-মা তখন বাড়িতে ছিলেন না। > My parents were not at home then.

19. ছাত্ররা ক্লাসরুমে ছিল না। > The students were not in the classroom.

20. আমরা পার্টিতে ছিলাম না। > We were not at the party. 

 

যদি কারো অধিকারে বা কারো নিজের কোন কিছু ছিল বোঝায়; তাহলে সে ক্ষেত্রে ‘had’-এর ব্যবহার করতে হবে।

Formula: Subject+had+object.  

1. আমার একটি গাড়ি ছিল। - I had a car. 

2. তার অনেক টাকা ছিল। - He had a lot of money. 

3. আমাদের একটি সুন্দর বাড়ি ছিল। - We had a beautiful house. 

4. তাদের বড় বাড়ি ছিল। - They had a big house. 

5. সে দুপুরের খাবার খেয়েছিল। - He had lunch. 

6. আমার কাছে পর্যাপ্ত সময় ছিল। - I had enough time.

7. আমার ভাইয়ের অনেক বন্ধু ছিল। - My brother had many friends. 

8. তারা একটি সুযোগ পেয়েছিল। - They had an opportunity. 

9. আমাদের অনেক দায়িত্ব ছিল। - We had many responsibilities. 

10. সে বড় সমস্যা অনুভব করেছিল। - He had a big problem.

 

যদি কারো অধিকারে বা কারো নিজের কোন কিছু ছিল না বোঝায়, সেক্ষেত্রে Subject-এর পর ‘had no, বসাতে হবে।

Formula: Subject + had + no + object.

1. আমার ছাতা ছিল না। → I had no umbrella.

2. তার টাকা ছিল না। → He had no money.

3. আমাদের সময় ছিল না। → We had no time.

3. তোমার কোনো কলম ছিল না। → You had no pen.

4. তাদের কোনো পরিকল্পনা ছিল না। → They had no any plan.

5. আমার বই ছিল না। → I had no book.

6. তার কোনো বন্ধু ছিল না। → He had no any friends.

7. আমাদের টিকিট ছিল না। → We had no ticket.

8. তোমার কোনো উত্তর ছিল না। → You had no answer.

9. তার চাবি ছিল না। → She had no key.

10. আমার সুযোগ ছিল না। → I had no chance.

11. তাদের কোনো সমাধান ছিল না। → They had no solution.

12. আমার ইচ্ছা ছিল না। → I had no desire.

13. তার সাহস ছিল না। → He had no courage.

14. আমরা ছুটি পাইনি। → We had no holiday.

15. আমার ফোনে ব্যালেন্স ছিল না। → I had no balance on my phone.

16. তার কাছে কোনো খবর ছিল না। → He had no news.

17. তারা গাড়ি ছিল না। → They had no car.

19. আমার কোনো চিন্তা ছিল না। → I had no worries.

20. তার কোনো দায়িত্ব ছিল না। → She had no responsibilities.
